Profile

A full member of The Society of Garden Designers since 1999, and winning numerous garden design awards together with gold, silver gilt & silver medals at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Hampton Court and Gardeners World Live, Paul has been designing gardens in East Anglia for over 25 years.

Paul’s career began in architecture where he spent 15 years working for various architectural practices in East Anglia developing his skills and many other disciplines within the field, which now underpin professional garden design. He is also a keen musician and artist with an eye for detail and form, communicating ideas through drawings and sketches to provide clients with the visual stimulus that will in time become reality.

The majority of Paul’s work is focused on private and domestic garden design, although he has designed numerous commercial and local authority projects including public gardens. Many of his gardens are designed to cope with the changing climate and drier weather conditions. Paul believes passionately that gardens should be more plant orientated, trying to keep hard landscaping to a minimum, using locally sourced materials and recycling existing material wherever possible. He feels it is of vital importance to work sympathetically with the site and soil conditions, choosing the right plant for the right place. This makes for a garden that is in harmony with itself and thus the planting will give off its best year after year.

Paul has a thorough knowledge of garden construction and building techniques and his plant knowledge continues to develop. Paul worked with Beth Chatto at her world-famous garden in Essex between 2004-2008, assisting with ongoing design projects within the garden. This experience proved invaluable and enabled his continuing professional development.
